This site will post surveys of public wooded areas in Cuyahoga and Medina Counties,
exploring for evidence of the Asian Long-horned Beetle.
I am a Pre-Master's Student in Natural Resources at O.S.U., a member of the International Society of Aboriculture (and other cool nature societies) a child of the Ohio forests,
an amateur Arborist and avid Conservation Volunteer.
I will be posting the areas surveyed, my observations as well as maps of the surveyed areas.
My plans are to not only perform a service for the preservation of the Northern Ohio area forests,
but to also use the experience and information in my Degree Studies.
The reason I am surveying public areas near and in residential environments is because it appears that all new infestations of the ALB are caused by humans transporting them. I will be observing areas near publicly used trails, and trails near residential areas. Later I will extend the surveys to wooded areas near businesses that receive supplies by pallets. The areas I will focus on are those that the public uses frequently but may not be checked regularly for tree health.
